Practice policies

APPOINTMENTS AND CANCELLATIONS

  • Please remember to cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance.
  • You will be responsible for the entire fee if cancellation is made in less than 24 hours.
  • The standard meeting time for psychotherapy is 50 minutes. Requests to change this need to be discussed with the therapist beforehand so time can be scheduled.
  • A $10.00 service charge will apply for any returned checks.
  • Late arrivals may result in loss of session time.

TELEPHONE ACCESSIBILITY

  • If you need to contact me between sessions, please leave a voicemail. I will attempt to return your call within 24 hours.
  • Face-to-face sessions are preferable, but if you are sick, out of town, or need additional support, phone sessions may be available.
  • In an emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND TELECOMMUNICATION

  • To protect confidentiality and avoid dual relationships, I do not accept friend or contact requests on social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • This ensures privacy and maintains clear therapeutic boundaries.

ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

  • I cannot guarantee confidentiality of text messages or email. These may only be used for scheduling or cancellations.
  • Do not use electronic communication for therapeutic content or emergencies.
  • Services delivered electronically are considered telemedicine under the California Telemedicine Act of 1996.

Telemedicine Disclosures:

  1. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting your right to future care or benefits.
  2. All existing confidentiality protections apply.
  3. You have guaranteed access to medical information transmitted during telemedicine, and copies may be requested for a reasonable fee.
  4. Identifiable images or information will not be shared without your consent.
  5. Benefits of telemedicine include improved communication, access to information, reduced costs, and better continuity of care.
  6. Risks include the therapist’s inability to observe certain nonverbal or physical cues that might be clinically relevant.

MINORS

  • If you are a minor, your parents may be legally entitled to some information about your therapy.
  • Together we will decide what information is appropriate to share with your parents and what remains confidential.

TERMINATION

  • Ending therapy is a process designed to ensure closure. The length of termination depends on the treatment’s intensity and duration.
  • I may terminate treatment if psychotherapy is not being effectively used or if payment defaults occur, but only after discussion and exploration of alternatives.
  • If therapy ends, I will provide referrals to other qualified therapists if requested.
  • If no appointment is scheduled for three consecutive weeks (without prior arrangements), the professional relationship will be considered discontinued.
